The infraspinatus occupies the posterior shoulder blade and is responsible for external rotation of the humerus. It is a rotator cuff muscle and a frequent trigger point site following shoulder strain or impingement.
Trigger points here refer deeply into the front of the shoulder, down the outer arm, and sometimes into the forearm and hand. Often mistaken for shoulder joint pathology.
Apply the tip to the flat surface of the shoulder blade below the spine of the scapula. Work methodically from the medial to lateral border, holding each tender point for 60 to 90 seconds.
