The psoas major is the primary hip flexor, connecting the lumbar spine to the femur. Extended sitting shortens it chronically, compressing the lumbar discs and creating significant trigger point load over time.
Pain in the lower back, groin, and front of the hip. Difficulty standing fully upright after sitting for long periods is a hallmark symptom. Can also contribute to anterior pelvic tilt and sacroiliac joint dysfunction.
Apply the tip below and lateral to the navel, angling slightly inward. Use a gentle approach and release pressure immediately if sharp sensations occur. Best accessed in a reclined position with knees bent.
