Quadratus Lumborum

The quadratus lumborum (QL) is a deep posterior abdominal muscle spanning the lower rib to the pelvis. Overuse, postural asymmetry, and sudden loading make it one of the most common trigger point sites in the lower back.

Common Pain Patterns

Trigger points refer pain across the entire lower back, along the top of the pelvis, and into the outer glute and hip. Pain is often worse when transitioning from sitting to standing.

Using the Pressure Pointer

Position the tip lateral to the lumbar spine, between the lower rib and the top of the pelvis. Apply pressure while lying on your side or with support behind you. Address each side independently.
