The suboccipital group comprises four small muscles at the base of the skull connecting the occiput to the upper cervical vertebrae. These muscles are highly susceptible to trigger point development from forward head posture, screen use, and sustained static loading.
Diffuse headache that begins at the base of the skull and spreads across the top of the head or behind the eyes. Neck feels compressed and stiff, with a sensation of pressure rather than sharp pain.
Position the tip at the base of the skull, targeting the bony ridge of the occiput. Apply gentle upward pressure and hold. Never apply sharp or jabbing pressure in this region. Slow, sustained compression is the key technique.
